Index Funds and ETFs
Passive funds track an index, a commodity or a basket of assets. Passive funds are in the form of either index funds or Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs). They are an alternative to active funds. Index Funds are like mutual funds that invest in the constituents of the underlying index in the same proportion as in the index. Index Funds schemes are bought and sold at the end of the day Net Asset Value (NAV). ETFs are listed and traded in demat form on a stock exchange. They can be bought and sold real time during the market hours. Their price changes continuously to reflect changes in the index or commodity prices.
